A great spa is more than a place to get your nails done or get your skin pampered with some facials. It’s a complete experience where you can relax and recharge, and the best ones in town do just that. From a Japanese-inspired sanctuary in the Greenwich Hotel to a cavernous Roman bathhouse that’s filled with wine, these spots are the place to go for an ultimate self-care day.
Framed with wood from a 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse and dotted with lanterns, the ethereal Shibui Spa is a favorite of privacy seekers. “We love coming here and soaking in the Japanese tubs, taking a sauna session or relaxing in the lounge area,” says Laura Kim (creative director of Oscar de la Renta and Monse). She loves the Hinoki Ritual ($380), which starts with a cleansing soak in a traditional Japanese bathtub and ends with a 90-minute shiatsu massage.
One of the largest in the city, this 16,000-square-foot retreat is home to multiple saunas — from fall in Central Park to the New York skyline — as well as baths and relaxation rooms. “The whole thing feels like a big house, complete with paths, waterfalls and heated pools,” says Travel + Leisure. “Plus, there’s a huge selection of massages, body treatments and manicure and pedicure options.”
Tucked inside Hudson Yards, this eucalyptus-lined spot offers an escape from the commotion of the outside world. Its seven private treatment rooms offer a wide range of facial and body work treatments, plus hi-tech picks like the Emsculpt body contouring treatment and the power nap full-body LED session.
