New York’s Best Spas

Best spa

Whether you’re a full-time New Yorker or just in town for a few days, these best spas deliver a true respite from the flurry of city life. From luxurious hotel spas to a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at a new social wellness club, these places offer everything from traditional facials and massages to cutting-edge anti-aging treatments and even body detoxes.

The aptly named Ling Chan is where Asian beauty principles come to play, and the spa offers a holistic approach to skincare (think: acupuncture and herbal detox). If you’re looking for something a little more exotic, check out AIRE Ancient Baths, which is set in a former 19th-century textile factory—the first U.S. location of a ten-country international spa chain. The spa’s thermal tour is a treat in itself, with different temperature baths to experience by candlelight and orange blossom aromas, but the spa also has plenty of other services from a full-body LED session to an Emsculpt body contouring massage.

In the posh hotel neighborhood of Tribeca, Spa Diane Barriere is a sophisticated oasis complete with a hydrotherapy pool and treatments from Paris-based brand Biologique Recherche. The spa also has one-of-a-kind specialty treatment rooms that feel like private retreats. For instance, designer Courtney Kiersznowski goes a few times a year for the hip-pain-alleviating deep-tissue massage that incorporates energy sessions. Other options include a scalp massage that helps with stress and the ‘Ballancer Pro,’ a touchless lymphatic drainage massage.
