QC NY — Located on Governor’s Island, this newly opened spa combines everything you want from a day of pampering. You can soak in a thermal bath and sauna, relax in the fireplace room, enjoy Vichy showers, or even take part in ancient practices like a platza treatment (that’s lightly beating yourself with olive branches in a piping hot steam room—we promise it’s not as torturous as it sounds).
Equinox Hotel NYC — The marble-lined sanctuary at this posh fitness club is one of the best places to get a massage in the city. They also offer facials, body treatments and a hyperbaric oxygen chamber that’ll have you looking (and feeling) your best.
Mermaid Spa — This spot that we wrote about back in 2013 is the perfect mash-up of Old World and New World. You’ll find a mixture of Russian-born locals and the impeccably young and fit here, all lounging around in tiny bathing suits sweating away toxins in scalding hot saunas, cooling off in icy pools or getting pounded by men with hammers in a platza treatment. It’s an experience not to be missed and you can get a day pass for $40; massages are a la carte.
City Well — This little Brooklyn spa may have a more residential feel to it, but they’re a true hidden gem and a great place for a hydrotherapy session. They use Bullfrog’s JetPak system, which offers interchangeable water jet technology that can be customized to your needs. They have 20 different models, including two three-person spas, six five-person ones and four six-and-seven-person spas.
