If a knot in your back or a dull-looking face is keeping you from being your most beautiful self, you know it’s time to book an appointment at the best spa in town. Thankfully, there are plenty of options. From a huge, magical bathhouse to a high-end beauty salon in an iconic hotel, the city has some of the most impressive (and affordable) pampering spots around.
At the new L’Occitane spa, a gorgeous spot in a new InterContinental hotel, French beauty products are on hand throughout the space, and therapist Sheena Morris left not a kink un-unkneaded during my hourlong cherry blossom massage ($185). This serene harbor-facing spot, which has just opened, is also easily the region’s most beautifully designed, from thick robes in the posh locker rooms to a coed relaxation lounge with expansive windows framing the Potomac that feels like checking into an upscale boutique hotel for a day.
You can find Aire Ancient Baths all over the world, but the sweeping, magical New York location may be one of the most memorable. Guests can spend the entire day there, soaking in the three-story waterfall, jacuzzi and cold plunge pool before booking services, which include a range of massages, facials, body treatments and waxing.
It’s not cheap—the most popular massage is $245—but if you’re looking for an escape from the noisy, crowded streets of the city, this spot on Governor’s Island is a tranquil hideaway with impeccable views of Manhattan and a wide array of services, including detox massages. You’ll need a reservation, though, and it’s worth it to arrive early to hang out in the saunas, steam room, Vichy showers and relaxation lounges while you wait.
